Niki’s story is about a young man’s life changing in under a year, how a happy workman becomes a patient on a waiting list for a heart and kidney transplant. While waiting for the transplant, Niki feels worse and worse, and the doctors give him high priority. Niki’s waiting days are over and he receives a fine heart and a perfect kidney. The operation goes well and everything looks promising. But one early morning before his release from hospital, Niki suffers heart failure and, despite fast intervention from the hospital staff, Niki’s new heart never beats again. Niki had one message: everyone must decide whether or not they wish to donate their organs if their luck runs out. “Someone has to die if I am going to live. It must be very difficult for those losing their loved ones. But I hope they will remember that they are saving someone else’s life – and I am going to show them how grateful I am. I am going to enjoy life and this second chance.” (Niki just before the transplant.)
