To Catch a Thief gives viewers a rare look into the world of thieving. The two hosts are former thieves who now spend most of their spare time trying to prevent young people from turning to crime. For a short while they are allowed to practice their old crafts again. One of them will break into a house (with the owner’s consent), and based on that experience make some home security improvements. The hosts share their thoughts and concerns about their houses as potential marks for break-ins. After the break-in the house owners are confronted by the thief and his thoughts on the break-in, as he explains his actions. The thief then gives them some preventive advice for the future, and the thieves help the house owners improving security measurements for the future… The aim of the series is not to create panic, but rather to increase focus on common sense around home security: how to make your house unattractive to burglars. The programs are produced in co-operation with Danish Counsel for Crime Prevention, a group of insurance companies and several companies in the security business.
